UK artist Anna and the Willow creates absolutely stunning, life sized sculptures by weaving together willow rods. Inspired by nature, and her background in zoology, Anna’s work focuses on mostly flora and fauna, along with a few people. Larger sculptures are built by weaving the willow into a custom designed metal frame. While the medium itself doesn’t lend itself to a lot of detail, Anna manages to capture the movement and essence of each piece.
Anna describes the motivation behind her work:
“Working with a natural, sustainable material grown in England is what it’s all about. Having a creative connection with the natural world. I love working with my hands, creating, designing, drawing, making, weaving….always learning. I’ve always had a fascination with animals, in particular their form, anatomy and conservation – hence, I studied Zoology at University. I’ve combined my two passions and have not looked back since.”All images courtesy of Anna and the Willow. View more at her home page or visit her on Facebook .
