Stapled Masterpieces by Baptiste Debombourg

French installation artist Baptiste Debombourg has a talent for pushing the boundaires of his media, both literally and physically. Whether he is breaking down walls or pulling the floor out from under people, Baptiste’s unique vision and passion for transcendence is the unifying thread of his work.

By far the most mind boggling of his projects is Aggravure - where he revamps a classic Renaissance aesthetic armed with nothing but a stapler and, one can only assume, mountains of patience. The texture, layering and depth he achieves through this medium is nothing short of amazing - a complex and tedious tribute to the Mannerists of the 16th century evoking the likes of Pontormo, Fiorentino and other great masters of this prolific era of art history. He does so using the most mundane office supply imaginable, proving once and for all that it’s not the brush or the toolset, but the creative mind which defines the greatness of an artist.
