The Recycled Portraits of Zac Freeman

The Recycled Portraits of Zac Freeman

Florida artist Zac Freeman breathes new life into discarded objects in this stunning series of expressive portraits, where recycling bins, keyboards and gadgets are explored and excavated with painstaking precision to form portraits which are strikingly soulful and alive. From a distance the effect is almost photorealistic, while a closer view reveals an incredible show of the artist's technique, highlighting an almost magical ability to harness two perspectives simultaneously. The choice of medium here is also very much intentional.

Zac elaborates on the driving philosophy behind his technique:

"It is very important to me that I incorporate the actual objects into the art as opposed to a picture or rendition of it because it better expresses the intention of the artwork. I feel the junk is more powerful being present. It is an actual thing to be reckoned with that existed in this time and place and carries energy in and of itself. The result is a time capsule of objects that reflects our culture"
