Russian artist Pokras Lampas takes the age-old art of calligraphy to the modern age in this stunning series of decorative murals. Pokras is the youngest member of the 20 official “calligraffitti ambassadors”, chosen by Niels “Shoe” Meulman who spearheaded the artistic movement in 2007. The Korolyov native became so adept at his lettering that he has pioneered his own style, which he calls "calligrafuturism" - a part of a creative endeavor to make a bygone artform relevant in a contemporary world increasingly dominated by digital art.
There's a distinctively urban feel to these pieces, echoes of the years Pokras spent emulating the wildstyle graffiti masters of the West. Through a myriad of influences and hours of exploration, he effectively merged the two styles, with a special penchant for circular compositions which are as elegant as they are intricate. Soon enough his creativity would leave the confines of walls and express itself in fashion, advertising and even body painting. It's amazing how focusing on one's passion and honing a craft can open all sorts of doors and opportunities.
Pokras currently maintains a prolific profile in the art scene. His art is available exclusively through Opera Gallery, he is managed by Sylvain Gaillard from their Dubai location. More info hereAll images courtesy of Pokras Lampas.
